Introduction to reflexology

Reflexology is the application of pressure on feet, hands, ears and big bones. There are reflexes on the feet that correspond on every part of the body through the nervous system and the blood circulation. This involves pressure and massage techniques that  boost circulation. As we stimulate circulation vitality raises and the nature has the strength to overcome and throw off the poisons in the body. A complementary modality that promotes overall health through a deep state  of relaxation, approaching the health holistically; thus  consider the person as a whole: his/her invironment, habits and state.

"Nature intented that we should walk, bend, twist our feet and also run occasionally to keep a fresh supply of blood with the normal circulation surging through every minute. Circulation is life after all. We forget that our body is supposed to contain about 22 miles of tubing. Every inch of this tubing is kept in activity by contraction and relaxation dependant entirely upon the muscular activity of the individual. Thus we can see the benefits of any form of therapy or exersize that might increase the circulation and streghten the action of our muscles."There is still a lot of sceptisism in the western culture towards the modality of reflexology; however during the  1970s this practise   became more and more popular by people, medical community and mass media. Nowadays there is a network of qualified practicionners capable to work according to the established standards of recognised schools by the Association of each country and continent.

Reflexology requires  a series of session- 10 the least to see results. On the first appointment your reflexologist will take your history( please answer according to the facts and not what you should be doing ) and then you can set a timetable of your appointments- usually first weeks are 2 to 3 meetings and then we gradually lower their frequency. Some people go through a series of sessions and come back for a session once a month. It will help a lot to have your sessions on less busy days however if that is not possible please notice how differently you cope with stress after a session.

"If people would only realize the importance of taking better care of their feet, we would have less sickness in our land today. They fail to realize that every corn, callous or bunion, and its location definetely affects some organ or tissue of the body. Any undue pressure on a nerve reflex will have a definite effect on the organs involved. How necessary that we pay more attention to our feet and visit a chiropodist regularly when any abnormal condition takes place in them". Also good quality of shoes is vital, buying your shoes in the afternoon is also essential when the feet is a little bit swollen by the day. Shoes should be fairly comfortable.

You can not have a session if you are less than three month old pregnant,  you have thrombosis, recent surgery( less than six months) or contagious disease. There are other conditions to be treated mildly and cautiously, this is ensured through taking your history.

Often a symptom like a  headache can get worse before it improves. It is frequent to have an upset stomach or gastrointestinal disturbance in the form of diarrhea or a cold. Many times  detoxification involves strong  feelings like anger or the rememberance of long forgotten memories. The more the toxic material the blood contains the more severe the reaction will be.

If one does not find a session appealing, there are other very beneficial ways for the health like walking with bare feet on the beach, or have regular foot baths with levender essential oil and sea salt.

Thank you for your time, feel free to ask questions or comment.
