Ayurvedic yoga massage - Kusum Modak method

Ayurveda is made up of two sanskrit words: Ayu which meas life and veda which means knowledge. An  holistic system of medicine that dates back to India thousand of years ago. According to the ancient ayurvedic scholar Charka  "ayu" is comprised of four basic elements: mind, body, senses and the soul. The basic consept is that  balance on these elements  prevents dis-ease.

Yoga ayurvedic massage is a modern modality developed by master Kusum Modak 1  in Pune India who studied ayurvedic massage and Iyengar yoga  for years.  It therefore  combines the ancient wisdom of indian massage with yoga-based assisted  stretches and breathwork. Instructions on breathing and deep breathing allows the body to open up and prevent resistance  to the bodywork. It is not a relaxation massage;  a deep tissue- therapeutic full body work that adapts to the recievers needs.

In AYM we do not foccus on one particular part of the body. Instead we concentrate on vital energy, respiration, even blood circulation and re-allignment of the body.

One can not have a session if he/she is over 80 years old, is pregnant 1-3 months or 9 month, has been operated recently,  has fever, neuritis, skin disease or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

If you suffer from any of the following disease, you can have a session only if a physician has approved it:

  • Cardio-vascular conditions ( thrombosis, phlebitis, hypertention, heart conditions)
  • Any condition allready treated by a medical doctor
  • Edema
  • Psoriasis or eczema
  • High blood pressure
  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancer
  • Nervous or psychotic conditions
  • Heart problems, angina, those with pacemakers
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Bell's palsy, trapped or pinced nerves
  • Gynecological infections

The session lasts 90 minutes and  sesame oil is used together with vekhand  powder that calms down the nervous system and scrubs the skin. High content of lecithin in the oil  helps brain cells and  the nerves, allievates fatigue and depression, rejuvenates the system, removes swelling of all sorts, muscular pain and stiffness. The botanical name of the powder is Acorus calamus, Araceae and the plant comes from the family of ginger. Vechand is antiseptic and revitalizes the skin.

The 90 minute session is performed on the floor on a cotton matress.  After session there is a deep sense of openess and comfort on an physical, emotional and psychological level. However,  toxin travels through the blood first before elimination therefore dizziness, sleepyness or fatigue can also occur after session.

AYM increases breathing capacity, improves posture, flexibility, mobility, moves the lymph through circulation that deconjests the blood-muscle and nervous system , increases awareness towards your body, mindfullness and relieves from stress. Consequentlly daily issues like headaches, bloating , restless sleep and digestion issues do sooth after experiencing this modality.

Massage therapy treats numerous health conditions, mainly stress related issues that experts believe accounts for 80-90 % of disease. A successful massage relaxes both body and mind. It provides relief and it is a drug-free, non-invasive approach towards homeostasis, the body's natural capacity to heal.
